People who enjoy meetings should not be in charge of anything

Crazy Meeting Day!!!

Meeting One- With Tim, the professional Set Bulider - from 9-1. Very Helpful with invaluable information. We went through each set assessing how to support, construct an shot them, along with calculating the raw material needed. It has been established that all sets will be made from plywood, with two by four supports/frames, using bolts to facilitate removable walls. Andy managed to negotiate that all the plywood will be cut out by the craft centre- including windows and doors, which is LEGENDARY and saves us a lot of hassle. Thanks Andy! However we discovered that its not ok to use regular paints for the set dressing, and have to buy specialist stuff from Bristol Paints which we mix ourselves. Before painting we also have to apply a layer of PVA glue and grey primer. Tim suggested permanently PVA glueing calico down to the stage for flooring, and repainting it per set change. After expressing my concerns about having a permanent floor i suggested idea of using and acetate sheet then applying the wood effect Lino on top. Tim agreed and added that i could use spray mount to tack it down to the stage but able to be pealed off.

Jobs Completed:

- I made an Excel Spreedsheet listing all the props required for the film which total comes to about 200, with there frequency, scale and specific details. I also incorporated a construction tracking section, with the assigned maker, construction check, and completion per prop. Along with this i incorporated the props which i have purchased from dolls house miniature sites- tracking each props purchase, arrival, appropriateness for the film.

- Organised FULL team production meeting on tuesday at 4.15pm in third year/ stop-motion studio.

- I have bought approximately 50 potential props from various dolls house miniature internet shops. The main purchases have come from Bromely Craft Products, Shepherd Miniatures, SPminiatures, Maple Street Miniatures ad Delph Miniatures. I know some people would consider it cheating to do this and believe me I would love to make all the 200 props from scratch- but practically thats not going to happen, due to our short schedule, lack of experience, and lack of man power. Such props like the syringes needed for the hospital scene would have been so ridiculously hard to make considering how small an detailed they would have to be to stand up to the close up shots we need. However we do not have the luxury of being able to buy all our props this way as the dolls house miniature scale is set to 1/12- far too small against the scale of my models. This means that all furniture has to be made from scratch- beds, wardrobes, tables etc, but for smaller items such as books, and medical supplies can afford to be a little out of scale.

Jobs Completed:

  • Scaled up/ adapted "Mr Jackson Pantomime" paper theatre 2:1
  • Built mock up foam board theatre set
  • Bought replacement glue-gun after mine died during construction
  • Attempted to print off the Shop Front Street Design across multiple pages- which is mac/ photoshop is stupidly unable to do. Tried to download Poster Print but the free download only let you print a poster of 40cm by 30cm- seeing as I need to scale the design up by 350 percent in order for it to be proportional to the Jarvis, the total width came to approx 180cm. Not possible.
  • Sent Orla off to reprographics to print the shopfront design at 350 percent.
  • Sent Orla off to measure the stop-motion stage in order to ascertain the upper limit of the Hospital Room set.

Objectives for tomorrow:

  • Replace Jarvis' armature shoulders
  • Threadlock Nursie and Jarvis Armature
  • Assemble Musician armature
  • Create/ start excel schedule
  • Add to props list
  • Mock-foam board "Hospital Room" set
